We started school the same time as the public schools. We are do a letter, number, shape and color each week. Along with reading many books. Currently we are reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Alexander is loving it! Here are some of the home school activities we've done when I have had a camera close by.
Alexander doing math. He likes me to try and trick him in addition.
He like this math activity but has gotten into math worksheets lately which
I am glad about. It gives him the opportunity to practice
writing his numbers as well. He is getting good. |
Alexander finished the pot holder he has been weaving since
Easter. He is so proud of his work. |
William is my little hands-on artist. This is one way I have gotten
him to enjoy learning the alphabet. |
We have taken a couple field trips to their favorite place. The Dinosaur
Park. We spent one month on studying dinosaurs for the unit study. |
The boys made an erupting volcano. It turned out great. |
We took Dot candies and sorted them by color. Then we counted how many were in each color group. Then we recorded our findings on a grid. |
Afterwards we took toothpicks and created designs with them. Here the boys made little people with the candies. We also worked on creating patterns with the colors. The boys enjoyed the fact they could eat their learning "tool." |
In our dinosaur unit we studies fossils. How they are made. Made made fossil prints of our hands and other objects. |
They got to color their own dinosaur puzzles. |
I took free paint color sample strips and cut them up to make a color matching game. William has a knack for colors.'They've enjoyed this simple game. |
I've discovered that naturally my boys tend to find artistic ways to express what they are learning and observing in the world around them. One day while making dinner Alexander came bounding up the stairs to show me what he had made with his legos. He created these letters all by himself. He had been working on reading earlier in the day. So cool! |
These are Williams letter creations. |
One day the boys dressed up in pirate costumes so I made clue cards which led them to a map that showed them where a treasure of gold chocolate coins were buried. |
They sure enjoyed sitting in the shade of the tree to eat the treasure. |
The helped me paint a piece of wood that we will put in their room to keep track of their height. |
One night the boys found this big Toe Biter bug outside . I didn't know Utah had such large bugs! It brought back memories of Argentina and the large flying roaches. Yuck. |
Baby Lincoln joins us on some activities but others I have him sit on his blanket to play. We love the Lauri brand learning games/toys. Lincoln is working on placing puzzle pieces on a board, arranging the multi-colored plastic donuts on the stick from largest to smallest. His favorite book is Brown Bear Brown Bear. |
William loves to string beads. |
We have taken several hikes and walks. This is our annual collect fall leaves hike as a family. We love the mountains and being outside! |
We have been learning about magnets. |
We have done sand art. The boys enjoyed this craft a lot. |
Alexander is working hard on sewing. He is almost done sewing his first bean bag. |
We went to Willow Park to see the animals and play at the playground. |
One really fun art project we did was with acorns. We got them covered with paint them dropped them onto paper which was taped to the bottom of a box then shook the acorns all around. |
This in the final picture. The colors were so pretty. |
Lincoln loves to pain too. |
We went to the Observe the Moon night as a family one Friday evening when the moon was full. Here the boys learn how craters are formed on the moon's surface. |
Creating the phases of the moon with oreo cookies. |
Lincoln working on his sweet climbing skills. |
Dinosaur part again but with cousins this time. Matthew, Jonathan, Max, Aunt Rachel and Grandma Geri. |
Had a pretend picnic with paper food. We ended up playing grocery store where the boys practiced counting pennies to pay for the picnic food. |
Working on grids. Playing Battleship with Grandma Kim. Alexander LOVES games. We play a lot of candy land, care bears, connect four, trouble, uno, crazy eights, and Othello. |
Took a trip to the BIG zoo in Salt Lake City. |
Lots of reading. Here Grandma Kim reads to the boys the night before she has to return home. It was so nice to have her here with us. |
